ER Doctor-long but good

Quietly sitting at my desk working around 8 PM with my little Yorki dog at my side. The caller, Mr. Miller was an upset man who told me about his 35 year old son, Jacob, who was drinking heavily which was ruining his marriage. Mr. Miller told me that he bought his daughter-in-law, a brand-new Honda Pilot in an effort to get her to stay in the marriage. Mr. Miller was desperate to keep the couple together because the couple had three teenage sons and a five year old daughter. Jacob’s wife had told Mr. Miller that Jacob drinks alcohol from the time he wakes up in the morning until he goes to bed at night making him a useless husband. I continue to listen as Mr. Miller poured out his heart. Jacob’s wife was the best friend of Mr. Miller's daughter, Jolene, ever since the two girls were in college. Jolene had introduced the wife to Jacob so Jolene was also heavily invested in the success of the relationship. Mr. Miller wanted to hire StillWatch Investigations for one week to see how much drinking his son was doing so that they could prepare for an intervention. I begin completing the intake form. One of the questions was what is the name of Jacob's wife? Mr. Miller said her name was Caroline. I said are you telling me her name is Caroline Miller? He said yes I am. I said sir please give me your full name and address, which he did. I told Mr. Miller to hold on just a moment while I looked at something in my files. While I had Mr. Miller on hold I verified his identity his phone number and found the social media of his daughter Jolene. Once everything was confirmed I got back on the phone and I told Mr. Miller that I had a bit of bad news. I told Mr. Miller I hope you're sitting down because I have been following Caroline Miller for the last four weeks. And Caroline is having an affair with an ER doctor. I explained to Mr. Miller that the ER doctors wife had hired me to determine why he wasn't coming home from work. I said Mr. Miller as a matter of fact the ER doctors car is in Caroline Miller's garage right now. Mr. Miller could not believe what he was hearing. After I convinced Mr. Miller that I was telling the truth by sending him a video of Caroline Miller at the ER doctors house a week before, he began to share with me some of the details of what was going on. Caroline Miller had told her husband that he had to move out of the house and take the children with him. Jacob Miller went and got an apartment less than 1 mile from the marital residence so that the children could easily visit their mother. Jacob Miller was under the impression that they were just on a temporary separation until they could get things right with the marriage counselor. Mr. Miller was so upset that he asked me to come to his house the next day for a sit-down meeting.

When I arrived at Mr. Miller's house his daughter Jolene was there with tears in her eyes. Jolene did not believe for one minute that Caroline was having an affair and was a bit confrontational with me during our first meeting. In fact, Jolene told me straight to my face that she does not believe one word of it unless I had some solid proof. Jolene is an accomplished attorney in Nashville who frequently hires Nashville private investigators. I pulled up some videos on my phone for Jolene where Caroline Miller was entering the home of the ER doctor when the ER doctor wife was out of town. I also showed her the tracking information on the ER doctors vehicle showing that he was in Caroline Miller's garage the night before. Jolene wept. Caroline had lied to the family, then made Jacob leave his four bedroom, half a million dollar home and go live in an apartment complex because she was cheating. The pain in the family was palpable. Mr. Miller got up, then went to get his checkbook. Mr. Miller wrote me a check for $5000. Mr. Miller said I want you to go follow my son and tell me if he drinks as much as Caroline says he does. Mr. Miller said if he's a stone-cold alcoholic there's no wonder Carolyn's cheating. I told Mr. Miller and Jolene that if I were your son I would feel very betrayed right now no matter what my problem was in life. Mr. Miller said that's funny because my son just told me at the last family event that he felt like we loved Caroline more than him. Mr. Miller told me to follow his son and report back. Mr. Miller said he was going to try to think of a way to reconcile with his son.

I followed Jacob Miller Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday and Sunday from daylight till bedtime. Jacob Miller took his three boys and the little girl to the gym with him every day except Sunday. I went into the gym where I saw Jacob Miller playing tennis with his boys. The family left the gym and he took them to a park where his boys played softball together while he played with the little girl on the swings. Every day he took the kids for activities on Friday night they all went out for pizza. I followed Jacob Miller to lunch on a Thursday after he had been at his office. Jacob Miller was having lunch with a female. I found out later that was his secretary. During the lunch Jacob only drank water. The secretary was flirting with him with everything that she had but he never responded to her flirtatious behavior. Jacob returned to his office and left again around 4 PM and I followed him to a bar and grill on Nolensville Road. I let him sit in there about five minutes before I went in just so I could see what he was drinking. Jacob Miller was sitting at the bar and two friends joined him. I stepped away from the bar for about 30 minutes just to watch from outside, I could see in through the window that Jacob Miller was drinking some kind of clear beverage with a piece of fruit in it. So I come into the bar, sat down at the end of the bar and the lady asked me what would I like to drink. I pointed Jacob Miller's glass and said I'll have whatever he's having! The bartender said water with a cherry in it? I said yes please with a giggle. Jacob Miller got up and left the bar after he heard me say that. Jacob's friends were drinking beer, he was drinking water. On Sunday morning while the ER doctor’s car was parked in Carolyn Miller's garage. followed Jacob Miller and his children to church. I called Mr. Miller, the client, for an update. I said Mr. Miller guess where I am? I said I'm sitting in the parking lot of a church where your son has been inside for three hours with all the children. Furthermore, I have followed him for five days now and I have not seen Jacob take one drink of alcohol. I told Mr. Miller that my report is going to show that he is an excellent father who takes his kids to activities every day. I told Mr. Miller that the ER doctor is at Caroline's house right now as we speak and he been there since Thursday night because his wife is out of town. Mr. Miller thanked me for my time even offered me more money, but I said no you've paid me enough and my job here is complete.

One month later Jacob Miller called my phone. Jacob said you don't know me but I owe you a favor may I please take you to lunch. I accepted the offer. Jacob Miller told me that I single-handedly restored his faith in his father. Jacob said that he had not spoke with his dad in three months after a family event occurred where he was treated badly. Then Jacob's dad called him to apologize after my surveillance. Jacob said that he stopped going to marriage counseling because he realized his wife was a liar. Jacob said that Caroline told him on a daily basis that his job wasn't good enough and she wished he had become a lawyer like his sister. Caroline was trying to get Jacob to go back to school to be a lawyer. Jacob said he was more interested in raising healthy children and he liked his current job in marketing. Jacob told me that since reconciling with his father he had been doing very well at work and he got a very intelligent attorney to help him combat the narcissistic behavior of Caroline. I put Jacob in touch with the ER doctors wife so that they could collaborate on a divorce strategy.

So here's the end of the story. The ER doctor left his wife with an 18-month-old son and moved in with Caroline. 60 days later the ER doctor came back to his wife begging for forgiveness. Turns out that after Caroline found out the level of debt that the ER doctor had incurred during his residency she was no longer interested. The ER doctor’s wife gave him a place to live but they still divorced and now they share custody of their child. I hear from Jacob every now and then on Facebook. :) I named this case the CrissCross Case because these two cases crossed each other.
